Try a Relationship Enhancement Workshop with Spectrum Therapists
The Hold Me Tight® Couples Workshop is designed to provide a safe and supportive environment to help you deepen your understanding of you and your partner, develop the tools needed to heal emotional injuries that may have occurred in the relationship, and help you strengthen your relationship for years to come.
The workshop teaches couples to become more caring, to have a more trusting bond with each other, and to be more open with their feelings. All of this makes it possible for couples to have easier exchanges when they are in day to day stressful situations. No matter what stage of your relationship, married or not, you can learn to create a more loving bond with your partner.
You will practice exercises with your partner to improve relationship skills and view videos of other couples demonstrating how they learned to improve communication and strengthen their relationship. You will not be asked to speak in front of the group. You do not need to disclose any personal information, aside from with your partner and a therapist if you require assistance.
The Hold Me Tight Workshop is a streamlined version of Emotionally Focused Therapy. Over a weekend, your therapists will walk you and your partner through the seven conversations that capture the defining moments in a love relationship. You will learn how to shape these moments to create a secure and lasting bond with each other. Case histories and exercises in each conversation bring the lessons of EFT to life.
The focus of EFT is simple. Forget about learning new skill sets in communication, tools to argue better, making grand romantic gestures, analyzing your early childhood, or experimenting with new sexual positions. This is much more than negotiating and making deals. EFT focuses on creating and strengthening emotional bonds and engagement between partners by identifying and transforming the key moments that foster an adult loving relationship.
- EFT has an astounding 70 – 75% success rate and results have been shown to last, even in the face of significant stress.
- EFT is recognized by the American Psychological Association as empirically proven.
Seven Transforming Conversations
The Weekend workshop focuses on the following 7 core conversations with your partner.
Recognizing Demon Dialogues—In this first conversation, couples identify negative and destructive remarks in order to get to the root of the problem and figure out what each other is really trying to say.
Finding the Raw Spots—Here, each partner learns to look beyond immediate, impulsive reactions to figure out what raw spots are being hit.
Revisiting a Rocky Moment—This conversation provides a platform for de-escalating conflict and repairing rifts in a relationship and building emotional safety.
Hold Me Tight—The heart of the program: this conversation moves partners into being more accessible, emotionally responsive, and deeply engaged with each other.
Forgiving Injuries—Injuries may be forgiven but they never disappear. Instead, they need to become integrated into couples’ conversations as demonstrations of renewal and connection. Knowing how to find and offer forgiveness empowers couples to strengthen their bond.
Bonding Through Sex and Touch—Here, couples find how emotional connection creates great sex, and good sex creates deeper emotional connection.
Keeping Your Love Alive—This last conversation is built on the understanding that love is a continual process of losing and finding emotional connection; it asks couples to be deliberate and mindful about maintaining connection.
This workshop is offered every other month at Spectrum.
Couples of all backgrounds, stages of life, faiths, and sexual orientation are welcome.
